Nagad is a digital financial service operated by Bangladesh Post Office, launched in 2019. It has grown rapidly to become the second-largest MFS provider, offering cash-in/cash-out, P2P transfers, merchant payments, and utility bill payments. Government backing and competitive pricing have driven strong adoption, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
Bangladesh Bank appointed an administrator to Nagad in Aug 2024 over financial irregularities - upheld as lawful by the High Court - and Nagad's DIGITAL BANKING licence was subsequently suspended/revoked. The MFS wallet continues to operate under the administrator, with the administration repeatedly extended.
